Paul Comeau opened Cafe Chez Christophe in 1996 in the house where his grandfather Christophe Duguas lived. It's a small old-fashioned farmhouse with a one-storey addition in the back that was added sometime after the house was built.
It was known as Chez Christophe for Comeau's grandfather long before the cafe was open.
Grosses Coques is a pleasant little community just up the road from Pointe de l'Eglise, with tidy, brightly painted houses along the road and Acadian flags fluttering in the breeze. Across the fields, there is a low cliff, and then a rocky beach where they dig the unusually large clams that give the community its name.
When Paul Comeau, opened Chez Christophe, he planned to offer little more than chowder and rolls. He soon found that there was a strong demand for traditional Acadian food and began offering fricot and rappie pie.
Inside, it's homey, with mismatched tables and chairs. Some are antiques and some are just old. It gives you the pleasant feeling of sitting in the kitchen of an old Acadian farmhouse.
Paul Comeau, the owner, along with his team ensures you a memorable Acadian cultural experience. Young Acadian musicians on site will entertain you with Acadian music as you dine.
